Fast and Versatile

Fast and Versatile

I have a strong sense of story and pacing, in addition to an eye for detail. I can see and assemble storylines extremely quickly, with experience gained from editing a wealth of different genres (see below). I also have a degree in Film and Computing from the University of Kent.

Creative yet Technical

Creative yet Technical

I have been freelance editing since 2004, previously I worked in technical support at Films @ 59, a major post production house in Bristol. My background in Avid Support means I can assist with many of the technical challenges that arise throughout the editing process.

Avid, FCP & Premiere

Avid, FCP & Premiere

I am fully proficient on all the current major editing platforms, and always keen to learn more. I have also edited around the world and am equally happy on a laptop on location, or in a full suite in a post house.

I love editing. I think I like it more than any other phase of filmmaking. If I wanted to be frivolous, I might say that everything that precedes editing is merely a way of producing film to edit” – Stanley Kubrick.

Broadcast Credits

Film editing is now something almost everyone can do at a simple level and enjoy it, but to take it to a higher level requires the same dedication and persistence that any art form does.” Walter Murch.

GFX Video Showreel

Above is a Saul Bass inspired credits list that I created in Apple Motion. Although I specialise in offline editing, I am aware of the need to be able to help out with graphics when possible. To this end I am always improving my graphics skills and have on several occasion had my ‘temporary’ GFX broadcast to save time and money.

The shooting of the movie is the truth part and the editing of the movie is the lying part, the deceit part” – Paul Hirsch.

Short Films

I have been making short films since I was a teenager, and together with Anthony Sutcliffe (who directs them), work under the banner of Sketchlight Films. Below are a selection of shorts that were all edited by me, and on most of them I also helped out with filming and / or writing. Please click on the images to watch the films.
